Incontinence

Incontinence is another common condition that women face that is taboo to talk about affecting 1 in 4 women at different stages of their life. This condition can really disrupt a woman's life.

During perimenopause and menopause, the lack of estrogen makes the situation worse. Researchers think having low levels of the hormone estrogen after menopause may weaken the urethra. The urethra helps keep urine in the bladder until you are ready to urinate.

Once you are aware of the problem and willing to talk about it, you can take some steps to improve it by working on your pelvic floor muscles.

What can you do?
⭐Pelvic floor exercises- Replace high-impact exercises, such as jogging and aerobics, with strengthening and relaxing exercises, specifically for the Pelvic Floor.
⭐Tighten your pelvic floor muscles before and during the lifting things like shopping bags or your kids.
⭐Lose weight - Being overweight can weaken your pelvic floor muscles and cause incontinence because of the pressure of fatty tissue on your bladder.
⭐Limit caffeine, alcohol and carbonated drinks.
⭐Stay hydrated but listen to your body. It might seem like the obvious thing to restrict your water intake but it is better to stay hydrated and drink when you are thirsty.
